About the College
July 2012 was an exciting moment for the College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE). That date marked our beginning and opened a new set of possibilities for applied STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs at JMU. Computer Science, Engineering and Integrated Science and Technology are the constituent departments of CISE and they offer a range of cutting edge programs to educate students for the opportunities of tomorrow. Complementing their strong technical background, our students also focus on the human element of STEM, and the context in which STEM solutions are implanted in our society and around the globe. Our graduates stand ready to take on the challenges facing us now and in the future and they're prepared to use their STEM knowledge and toolkit wisely as they enter a variety of professions. Whether they've majored in Computer Science, Engineering Geographic Science, Integrated Science and Technology, or Intelligence Analysis, our graduates bring a cutting-edge approach to their work.
CISE also features unique graduate programs that feature Digital Forensics, Information Security, or Integrated Science and Technology. We offer one program entirely online (Information Security) and another jointly in the Mediterranean MS (ISAT – SERM). Our graduate programs also offer our focus on applying cutting-edge science and technology to solve important human problems.
Integrated Science and Technology and Computer Science were the two founding departments of the College of Integrated Science and Technology nearly 20 years ago. They come together again to inaugurate a new unit, this time joined by JMU's newest degree program, Engineering. An extended faculty-led discussion set the stage for the launch of the College of Science and Engineering, along with the College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) from the now-defunct College of Integrated Science and Technology. The opportunities to build on the applied STEM focus, coupled with CHBS's focus on health-related programs position JMU well for future opportunities. While CISE has a short history, it stems from a rich tradition of success.
